Jones Joins The Main Game
6 Dec, 2018
Macauley Jones will make his full-time debut in the Virgin Australia Supercar Series in 2019 as he takes over the wheel of the #21 Team CoolDrive Commodore.
Macauley has been racing full-time in the Super2 series since debuting mid-season at the Townsville event in 2014, and made his Supercar debut the following year, co-driving in the Endurance Cup with Dale Wood in the #21 Commodore. Since his start, Macauley has continued to improve on his results and been labelled one to watch.
In 2017, Macauley won the Bathurst Super2 250km race which was a very proud moment for Macauley, the team and his dad, Brad Jones. Throughout the 2018 season, Macauley claimed his maiden pole position and earned further podium finishes.
Macauley continued to line-up as a Supercar co-driver in the BJR stable, driving the #21 Supercar with Tim Blanchard in 2016, and in the #8 Supercar with Nick Percat in 2017 and 2018. Macauley also competed in the Supercar wildcard events over the last two years, racing at Darwin, Winton, and Tailem Bend, totaling 23 Supercar races for the rising star.

“I’m looking forward to working more closely with the CoolDrive team and representing their brand in 2019. People are still learning how big the CoolDrive business and brand really are. I’ll get to be involved in trade shows, branch appearances and various activations which I’m excited to do. It’s a great team, and still remains a family business, which is what BJR is all about too.”
“The 2018 season has been incredibly tough for me, I’ve grown a lot as a driver and a person. We’ve had a few times this year where we’ve had an average result after a promising start, such as Townville and Bathurst; and it’s hard to bounce back from that. If the consistency and race finishes were there it could have made a big difference to our end of season result, but you try not dwell on that any more than you need to.”
“There is so much to look forward to in my first Supercars season. The amount of time I get to spend racing will double, and so will everything else, the workload, the off-track commitments; I’m ready to step up. I’m excited to be working with the team at the next level.”
“The wild card and co-driving events have definitely helped me prepare for the year ahead. You get a taste of what to expect and how to manage yourself and the car in the longer races; its daunting and exciting all at the same time, but I’m so looking forward to 2019!”
“As Tim steps back from full-time driving, I can see he’s excited to take on more responsibilities as a team owner. He’ll be a vital part of the team and I’m looking forward to the structure he’ll bring into the team and garage. This is a new chapter for Tim and the chance for him to grow the Supercar program how he wants as an owner.”
“I’ll be bringing some of my valued sponsors across with me from my Super2 program. DrillPro have played a vital role in my racing, they’ve supported me through all my junior programs to reach my goal of being in Supercars and now I’m finally here. Without them it wouldn’t have been possible, so I can’t thank them enough for their continued support.”

“We’re excited to confirm that Macauley will be stepping into the Team CoolDrive Supercar in 2019. In the last three years I’ve spent with BJR, I’ve seen the growth and development of Macauley, both as a person, and a driver.”
“Not many people get to see the work Macauley does behind the scenes, if he’s not working on his own Super2 car he’s usually spending time working on his health and fitness. He’s got an incredible work ethic and is committed to doing the absolute best job he can.”
“There is no doubt the step from Super2 to Supercars is huge. It’s going to be a challenge for Macauley and I look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the main game. This is a very exciting time for Macauley; the time is right for him to take this next step and Team CoolDrive will be there to support him all the way.”
