Melbourne 400 Saturday Recap
24 Mar, 2018
TODAY'S TIMES Race 4 – 70km/13 Laps Finished: 22nd
Winner: Jamie Whincup Race 5 – 130km/25 Laps Finished: 11th Winner: Scott Pye THE WORD FROM TIM “On the out lap of our first race I noticed the Team CoolDrive Commodore had broken a header, so we really struggled during the first race to make any ground. I managed to get as high as 17th at one point, but we fell away there at the end. On most race weekends you would do a qualifying or practice session before hand, not just get straight into a race, so it’s a shame we couldn’t pick it up sooner. The CoolDrive team as always did a great job to change the engine and get me back out for the second race.” “It was an interesting end to the day. The second race was really exciting, after the first round of pit stops it started raining so half the cars made a gamble to pit for wet tyres with about 10 laps to go. Those that did were about a minute behind the group the didn’t. The rain eased a little so while the group were slowly catching up, it wasn’t enough. We made the right choice to stay out and we finished in 11th. A great result considering the tough weekend we’ve had so far with a couple of mechanical issues.” One final 70km race left to finish off the Melbourne 400, underway at 1:45pm tomorrow, which will mark Tim’s 150th Supercars start! COMING UP Sunday 4th March 13:45-14:15 – Race 6 – 70km/13 Laps
