THE RECAP

Today was all about qualifying for tomorrow’s 500-kilometre race, and the focus was kept well fixed on the skies, as the rain and hail that was forecast, made its way trackside.

Drivers did the usual qualifying session, then two 60km races were to determine the final grid. Co-drivers hopped in for the first 60kms, and where they finished is where the main drivers would start the next 60km race. These final results then determine the starting grid for tomorrow.

Dale got the first race underway, and mid way through a safety car was called when a car was spun and hit the barricade on the front straight. After a few laps under safety car, the race was ready to resume and as it did, the heavens opened and sent hail pouring onto the circuit. Half of the drivers pitted, half took the risk and pressed on!

Dale was one of these drivers, and it paid off. He finished the co-driver race in 9th, 14 spots up from his starting position of 23rd! The battles were just as fierce in the second race for the grid, with Tim getting shuffled in the order to finish in 14th. With 500kms on the agenda for tomorrow, the duo are in a very good starting position.

THE WORD FROM TIM / DALE

TIM “Qualifying was close today then the following races for the grid were pretty chaotic. Woody took a risk with not pitting when the hail came down and kept out of trouble to then finish inside the ten. We’ve got a good starting spot for tomorrows race, so we’re off to a good start for the 500.”

DALE ”It was a good result in today’s co-driver race, the conditions were so varied, rain, hail, shine; it had it all. The safety car really changed the order up as most drivers had to make the last-minute decision to pit themselves, and staying out was the right call today.”
