A Quick Look at the Team CoolDrive V8 Supercar

Holden VF Commodore V8 Supercar Specifications:

The Chassis

  1. It takes 720 man hours to construct each car
  2. All cars must meet the minimum weight of 1400kg (including Driver) at all times
  3. Front suspension: The Triple Eight developed Double Wishbone designed for racing with adjustable camber and driver adjustable front anti – roll bar
  4. Rear suspension: Category Controlled Independent Double Wishbone with adjustable camber, toe and driver adjustable anti – roll bad
  5. All cars fitted with a pneumatic Air Jack system to raise and lower the car during pit stops for tyre change

 

The Engine

  1. Noonan Race Engineering 5.0 litre fuel injected V8, NRE developed cylinder heads, fuel injection, intake and exhaust system, category controlled MoTec Engine Management Control System
  2. Power: Approximately 620 + BHP, with engine speeds limited to 7,500 RPM
  3. The cost of each engine is approximately $120,000
  4. The engines have a minor service every 1,500km’s and a major rebuild every 3000km

 

Gearbox and Differential

  1. All V8 Supercars use a Albins ST6, 6 speed Transaxle, which combines gearbox and transaxle into 1 unit located in the rear of the car
  2. The oil used in the gearbox and differential is blended specially to meet the high temperatures and extreme workload
  3. All V8 Supercars use the same gearbox gear ratios which are set by V8 Supercars
  4. Differential ratios are also determined by V8 Supercars and change depending on the track
  5. The cost of a transaxle is $25,000, with each car having 2 spares

 

Brakes and Wheels

  1. Front Brakes: AP Racing 6- Piston Front Calipers with 395mm ventilated discs
  2. Rear Brakes: AP RACING 4- Piston Rear Calipers with 355mm ventilated discs
  3. Each team will use 3 sets of front brake rotors and pads per race meeting
  4. Brake rotors can reach up to 1000°C in front and 850°C in the rear during a race
  5. All V8 Supercars use a Dunlop Control Tyre specifically made for V8 Supercars. A hard and a Soft compound of this tyre are used at different times throughout the year – 1 type of wet tyre is also available
  6. Wheels: Racer Industries, 18” by 11” and made from Aluminum
  7. End wheel and tyre assembly weighs 22kg
