CoolDrive staff love their Cycling!

25 Jul, 2014

The last two editions of CoolTalk have featured the fishing rivalry between the CoolDrive branches but within CoolDrive there is also a strong passion for Cycling. This is never more evident than during July when the lunch room discussions often centre on the Tour de France.

There are a few keen individuals within the CoolDrive community though, that actually jump on the bike themselves. Earlier this year Ben Fraser, Kim Tang, Gavin Collings and Damian Breed from CoolDrive Melbourne took part in the MS Melbourne Cycle 50km ride, showing support for people living with Multiple Sclerosis. This event has been running since 2007, raising over $3.5million with over thirty thousand participants.

For CoolDrive Melbourne’s Despatch Manager Damian Breed however cycling has become much more than just a hobby. Damien is a keen member of the rider development committee at Blackburn Cycling Club and is regularly down at the club competing or training. He has also convinced quite a few other CoolDrive employees to attend their “come and try” days.

Not to be outdone, CoolDrive Hallam Branch Manager David Pude is a keen mountain biker recently competing in the Mavic Crossmax Enduro at the Bike Buller Mountain Bike Festival. They describe the course as “the jewel in the crown, the cold beer amongst a slab of warm tinnies…” as it provides an “endless flowing downhill course that is simply as good as it gets”.

The course is a 4.5hour multi lap endurance race conducted down a flowing 6km cross country-downhill course that drops 300 vertical metres during each lap, after completing as many laps you can fit within your time limit (or that your body can handle!) you are redirected down the Mt Buller Descent for a rip roaring 12km, 1,100m vertical descent to the very bottom of Mt Buller.

In an outstanding effort, David completed nearly 70km, finishing 3rd in his category and 25th overall out of a strong field 218 competitors.
