Sustainability at the Core of CoolDrive's New Boronia Head Office and National Distribution Centre

CoolDrive Auto Parts is embedding sustainability into the design, construction and future operation of its new Head Office and National Distribution Centre in Boronia, creating a more efficient, responsible and future-focused facility to support the company’s continued growth.

Located at 1061 Mountain Highway, Boronia, the purpose-built development will bring together CoolDrive’s Melbourne-based distribution operations within a single national hub, while introducing a range of initiatives designed to reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency and create a better working environment for employees.

Comprising more than 31,000 square metres of warehouse space and 2,300 square metres of office space, the facility has been designed with sustainability considerations incorporated across energy use, water management, waste reduction, transport, lighting and indoor environmental quality.

As part of this broader sustainability approach, the development is also targeting a 4 Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

The development brings together sustainable design, low-impact construction and long-term operational efficiency.

Sustainability features

Sustainability initiatives are integrated throughout the facility's design and construction, including:

• 100% grid-sourced renewable energy to power the facility's operations
• A 300kW rooftop solar PV system, with capacity for future expansion
• Smart LED lighting throughout the warehouse and office environments
• Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for staff and visitors
• Extensive rainwater harvesting systems
• Building design that optimises natural light, indoor air quality and energy performance
• Construction practices that divert 95% of waste from landfill

A shared commitment across the project team

The development is being delivered in collaboration with Charter Hall, construction partner Qanstruct and JXC Group, with sustainability objectives considered throughout the planning, design and construction process.

As a member of the Green Building Council of Australia, Qanstruct has been delivering Green Star–rated projects since 2013, with a team that includes accredited Green Star Professionals. The company's approach brings sustainable design thinking in early and balances environmental goals with buildability and compliance, an approach reflected in the Boronia facility, where sustainability outcomes have been designed to go beyond minimum construction requirements.

Scheduled for completion in late 2026, CoolDrive’s new Boronia Head Office and National Distribution Centre will provide the business with a modern national distribution hub while demonstrating a continued focus on responsible growth, operational efficiency and long-term sustainability.

The facility will consolidate three existing Melbourne distribution centres into a single, highly efficient national hub, reducing operational duplication and improving supply-chain efficiency across CoolDrive's Australian and New Zealand network. Located with direct access to major arterial roads, EastLink and the forthcoming North East Link, the site also supports lower-emissions logistics through improved transport connectivity.
