Team CoolDrive Ready for the Grand Prix
11 Mar, 2015
Team CoolDrive will use this weekend’s V8 Supercar support races at the Formula 1 ROLEX Australian Grand Prix as a perfect chance to fine-tune for the remainder of the points-paying 2015 V8 Supercars Championship.
This year marks the 19th time that V8 Supercars have supported the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park and LDM has been on the grid for five of them since 2010.
This year sees two new drivers competing for LDM, meaning the team has never had the same driver from one year to the next competing in the V8 Supercars or indeed Albert Park’s non-championship event.
Tim Blanchard is competing at Albert Park in V8 Supercars for just the second time in his career after competing with Dick Johnson Racing there in 2013, where his best race finish was 11th (Race 3).
While most of his fellow V8 Supercar drivers took last weekend off, Blanchard had a different approach in preparation for Albert Park by jumping behind the wheel of father John’s Historic Formula Ford at the Phillip Island Classic. He managed three wins and finished first over all for the weekend.
“Driving my Dad’s old Formula Ford last weekend at Phillip Island was great fun, I have a lot of history in Formula Ford so to get back in one brought back some great memories, to win a few races was even better,” says Blanchard.
“I always look forward to the Grand Prix, I live nearby and have attended every year since 1996 so to be racing there is always a highlight.
“We learned a lot at Clipsal and will be using those lessons to hopefully produce some better results at the AGP. We are still in the redevelopment phase at LDM but we’re confident we are heading in the right direction.”
The V8 Supercars hit the track for the first practice session on Thursday 12th March.
