Team CoolDrive Melbourne 400 Supercars Recap

18 Mar, 2019

It had been six years since Macauley Jones drove on the Albert Park circuit, in a Formula Ford, and this weekend he was back to tackle the Melbourne 400 event from behind the wheel of the Team CoolDrive Supercar.

With only two practice sessions and back to back qualifying sessions, Macauley had a short time to familiarise himself with circuit again, plus combat any issues that arose from changing chassis between the Adelaide and Melbourne event.

Whilst the qualifying results didn’t reflect the efforts, Macauley showed speed, passing cars throughout each race. Macauley was enjoying being back behind the wheel and gaining confidence with every lap completed. During the fourth and final race, Macauley found himself in a battle pack with two of the Nissans when he went to pass DeSilvestro, Jacobson tagged him in the rear, arrowing Macauley straight into the fence. This ended Macauley’s race, and a post-race investigation would be had to investigate the matter further.

No matter the result of the investigation it means there is a lot of work ahead for the Team CoolDrive crew to repair the car for the next event.

Next up, the Supercars head into the one and only double-header event of the season, the Tasmania SuperSprint on 5-7 April, then straight back across to Phillip Island on 12-14 April.

WORD FROM MACAULEY

“It’s been a testing weekend trying to learn the track again and get my head around it all with the change in chassis. It certainly wasn’t the way we wanted to end our weekend, unfortunately, we head home with a fair bit of damage to the front which we’ll need to assess and repair over the next week.”

“I’ve got a lot to work on still but feel like I made some good improvements over the weekend and was moving forward in the races. I’m looking forward to getting back to Tassie and Team CoolDrive will be ready to fight again.”
