Team CoolDrive Steps Back in Time with Sandown Supercars Retro Round Livery Reveal

6 Nov, 2019

Team CoolDrive will take a step back in time for retro round at the Sandown 500, with Macauley Jones and Dean Canto showcasing a much-loved white, green and red OzEmail livery that was used by the team in the early 2000s.

This iconic round from the 8th-10th of November gives Supercar teams the chance to have some fun with old school designs and has quickly turned into a fan favourite.

OzEmail partnered BJR when the team first moved into V8 Supercars in 2000 and backed the team for five years. Initially fielding one car for BJR co-owner Brad Jones, the team expanded to two cars with John Bowe joining the Albury-based squad in 2002.

With the backing of OzEmail, both cars scored Bathurst podiums – 2nd in 2001 with Brad and John Cleland and 3rd in 2004 with Brad and John Bowe.

In another nod to the past, Macauley Jones will be racing the same number (#21) and livery as dad Brad did 15 years ago.

Macca added, “I’m honoured and pumped to be running the same livery and number as dad did. It’ll be a very special moment for me when I roll out in it at Sandown, I’m looking forward to it! A big thank you to CoolDrive for giving me this opportunity, one I’ll remember forever.”

For team co-owner Brad Jones, the livery brings back a lot of memories, “It’s very exciting to see this design come to life again after all these years,” Brad said. “The white design with Jones on the window certainly rolls the clock back for me and I’m very proud to have Macca driving “my car” with our team.

“I enjoyed the success and the relationships that we formed over this period of my racing career. I would like to thank the Blanchards and CoolDrive for indulging me and having, what I think, is one of the best-looking cars again at the heritage Sandown round,” Brad said.

“We are all about family and relationships at CoolDrive, so being able to have Macca pay homage to Brad is a memorable gesture we support, and one I can personally relate to.” Tim Blanchard from Team CoolDrive stated.

The Team CoolDrive Supercar in its striking new colours of green, red and white will be on track from Friday morning with a 30-minute co-driver session first up. Broadcast of the race will be Live on Fox Sports 506 and Channel Ten across the weekend. Your local TV times and coverage information can be found here - https://www.supercars.com/tv-schedule/
