Team CoolDrive Gold Coast 600 Supercars Recap

26 Oct, 2019

It was a hot start to the first day of racing at the Gold Coast 600 with the usual combination of blue skies and track-side heat.

For Team CoolDrive, co-driver Dean Canto got Saturday’s 300km race underway, completing a double stint straight up and continuing his consistent and clean run. Running into a few issues with a plastic bag getting caught and covering the radiator making temperatures rise in the car he still handed the Team CoolDrive Supercar over to Macauley cleanly. Macca showed strong pace for the remainder of the race. The Team CoolDrive Racing duo crossed the line in P19, however, due to overnight penalties, they have bumped up the grid into P17.

Macca and Dean started Race 27 on Sunday in P21 and unfortunately hit some trouble on lap one, after running into a multi-car pileup. With nowhere to go, the front of the car was extensively damaged, which impacted the car’s straight-line speed for the rest of the race.

The Team CoolDrive Racing Duo crossing the chequered flag in P15 which was a tremendous effort by the whole team. Continuing to move forward the boys are eager to turn their attention to Sandown for the final round of the Pirtek Enduro Cup.

THE WORD FROM MACCA

“Dean got a good start, but a few cars got tangled together at turn 11 which we got caught up in and had a fair bit of damage to the front of the car. As there was no safety car during the race, we couldn’t get that time back. We lost a lot of straight-line speed due to the damage to the car so there wasn’t much we could do.

All in all, pretty happy with the pace of the car and Dean and I are making improvements, so we’ll keep hustling and head onto Sandown now.”
