CoolDrive Racing Reveals Stunning Indigenous Round Livery

2 Jun, 2022

The Blanchard Racing Team (BRT) has unveiled a striking Supercars Indigenous Round livery for the CoolDrive Racing Ford Mustang, with artist Melissa Tipo/Yaram drawing together multiple facets core to the sport, the team and the Northern Territory’s local area.

Set to hit the track at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway from June 17-19, at the heart of the design is the Saltwater Crocodile, which represents strength, power and masculinity.

Balancing out the Crocodile, the water lilies represent fertility, the blue signifies water, and the dots around the motifs symbolise prior generations, who are still overseeing and guiding society.

Another important facet is the bonnet painting, which covers various topics.

The top left represents the Larrakia Country (Darwin area), with the flowing water surrounding the community, otherwise known as the “Saltwater People”.

At the bottom right is the team, their families and the community supporting the outfit, while the star at the top right represents “Grandpa”, ensuring that John Blanchard Senior is remembered at the track.

Tipo/Yaram’s family have lived in the Darwin and Litchfield areas for generations, with her current role being an Academic Coordinator for the Young Indigenous Women’s STEM Academy, which delivers a CSIRO program for women seeking opportunities in a STEM career.

For BRT Co-Principal Tim Blanchard, the Darwin Supercars event is always a highlight on the calendar.

“It’s fantastic that in 2022 as a sport we are celebrating the Indigenous Round for the first time, and immersing ourselves with the local history, people and culture,” said Blanchard.

“Melissa has done a brilliant job in drawing together so many aspects that are important to the team, and combined tell a great story.

“We hope the car goes as well as it looks!”

Team driver Tim Slade enters the sixth event of the season placed ninth in the point standings, with seven top-ten results to date in 2022.

Last time out at Hidden Valley in 2021, Slade was in the thick of the action for the CoolDrive squad, with a pair of top-ten results led by a seventh place effort.
